Ishita Ishita

Biography

Ishita is a BOF–UNU CRIS funded PhD Fellow at  Migration Law Research Group at Ghent University and United Nations University-CRIS .

Her doctoral research focuses on international refugee law, human rights law and climate change governance, with particular attention to climate migration, migration governance, and the legal protection of climate-displaced persons within international legal frameworks.

She obtained an LL.M. in European and International Law from Ghent University under the Master Mind Scholarship, graduating magna cum laude.

Her master’s thesis, “Beyond Borders: Assessing the Need for a Distinct Legal Status for Climate Migrants in the European Union,” examined legal protection gaps affecting climate migrants in the EU.

Prior to this, she completed her B.A. LL.B. in India with First Division and Distinction.

 
Her broader research interests include migration policy, refugee protection, human rights law, and transnational governance.
