Simon Venmans

Biografie

Simon Venmans obtained a master's degree in law (research track) at the Catholic University of Leuven, followed an exchange programme at Osgoode Hall Law School, and obtained a specialised master's degree in social law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

As of September 2025, he has been affiliated with Ghent University as an academic assistant for Prof. Inger De Wilde and Prof. Marc De Vos.

His research interests focus on how this welfare state is being redefined and 'rebordered' in light of migration.

For his own doctoral research, he examines legal mechanisms at the intersection of social security law (supervisor Prof. De Wilde) and migration law (co-supervisor Prof. Desmet), and how these mechanisms portray migrants as a risk to the national social security system, more specifically on the basis of Risk Society Theory applied to legal theory.
