On Tuesday, 18 March 2025, at 5:00 PM, Professor Anna Nylund from the University of Bergen in Norway will deliver a public lecture as part of the Marcel Storme Chair. The lecture, titled "If Mediation Is the Answer, What Is the Question? Ideas for Accessible, Just, and Sustainable Dispute Resolution," will take place in Auditorium E.
Summary:
Mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) have become buzzwords, often presented as solutions to the challenges of expensive and complex court proceedings. However, mediation and ADR are broad and somewhat vague concepts, covering a variety of processes, each with its own strengths, limitations, and specific uses. To address the shortcomings of the justice system effectively, we must first identify the challenges faced by citizens, businesses, and society when resolving disputes. Only then can we develop dispute resolution processes and mechanisms that truly alleviate those issues.
After the lecture, you are warmly invited to a reception in the staff meeting area.
This public lecture has been approved by the Federal Mediation Commission for one hour of continuing education.
