Call for Papers – Symposium “Apologies & Law: Intersections, Tensions, and Transformation”

(02-07-2025)

In the spring or early summer of 2026, the International Network for Law and Apology Research (INLAR), co-chaired by Sébastien De Rey (University of Amsterdam) and Wannes Vandenbussche (Ghent University), will host a one-day international symposium in Ghent: Apologies & Law: Intersections, Tensions, and Transformation. The event aims to bring together researchers, legal practitioners, and policymakers interested in the evolving role of apologies in legal and societal contexts.

The symposium welcomes contributions that explore legal, theoretical, or empirical aspects of apology in law, including themes such as judicial remedies, public apologies, transitional justice, apologies in ADR and comparative approaches. Extended abstracts (max. 1,000 words) can be submitted until 15 September 2025.
