Stata for Entrepreneurship Research

Target audience

Researchers in the field of entrepreneurship (or entrepreneurial finance by extension) or with a clear interest towards uncovering datasets on entrepreneurial phenomena

Organizing and scientific committee

Abstract

This three‑day, hands‑on course equips junior researchers in entrepreneurship or with an interest in entrepreneurship research with a robust, reproducible Stata workflow. Using examples from founder teams, venture growth, and survey/panel data, this workshop covers the Stata interface and directory (discovering packages and functions), efficient data import and cleaning for large datasets (labels, recodes, merge/append, reshape, missing values, dates), and good practices for documenting work with do‑files. Participants learn to produce publication‑ready graphs, descriptive statistics and correlation tables, and to run baseline regression analyses that address common entrepreneurship research questions. The format alternates concise lectures with guided labs (Day 1–2) and culminates in an interactive discussion and Q&A (Day 3

Objectives

1 The student understands the basics of Stata.

2 The student can search the Stata directory to understand statistical packages and functions.

3 The student can use Stata to import, clean and process large data sets.

4 The student can produce graphs, descriptive statistics and correlation tables.

5 The student can report on programming activities by writing do-files.
