Plantentuin Universiteit Gent verkrijgt ArbNet accreditatie Level IV
GHENT UNIVERSITY BOTANICAL GARDEN UPGRADED TO LEVEL IV
BY ARBNET ACCREDITATION PROGRAM
Ghent, Belgium (18/02/2022) – The University Botanical Garden in Ghent has been upgraded to a Level IV Accreditation by The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and The Morton Arboretum, for achieving particular standards of professional practices deemed important for arboreta and botanic gardens. The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program is the only global initiative to officially recognize arboreta at various levels of development, capacity, and professionalism. In addition to the recent upgrade, Ghent University Botanical Garden is also recognized as an accredited arboretum in the Morton Register of Arboreta, a database of the world’s arboreta and gardens dedicated to woody plants.
The mission of the Ghent University Botanical Garden is to provide a place of education, scientific research, recreation and beauty. The garden provides healthy, well-maintained and well-documented living plant collections. The garden cooperates with international institutions involved in plant conservation and focuses on conservation of tropical and subtropical trees.

About Ghent University Botanical Garden
The Ghent University Botanical Garden is a rather small garden of 2,75 ha, but nevertheless it preserves a collection of ca 10000 species. The main goals are to preserve, to study, to admire and to protect living ex situ plant collections. The garden is daily open to the public and offers guided tours and workshops for children, students and the general public.
The garden benefits from a strong cooperation with the university community both in terms of scientific research and higher education. It develops a strong focus on conservation activities.
