Gynaecological cancers – cancer of the ovaries, cervix, uterus, vagina or labia – affect over 3,500 women in Belgium every year. GYPON, or the Gynaecological Pelvic Oncology Network at Ghent University, supports and promotes scientific research that makes a real difference to the treatment, prognosis and quality of life of these women.

History

This fund was established thanks to the proceeds from a conference organised by a patient.
Objective
The objective of the Fund is to provide financial support for research into gynaecological cancers and related public outreach. This includes research into:
- Faster and more accurate diagnosis. Detecting tumours more quickly and reliably increases the chances of successful treatment.
- Innovative treatments through the support of clinical trials testing new, promising treatments.
- Less toxic treatments to minimise therapeutic side effects and the strain on the body.
- Personalised care thanks to biomarkers. By detecting specific bodily substances or signals that indicate which treatment is most suitable for the individual patient.
- Better support for patients during and after treatment, across all areas of life.
