International mobility: WHY and HOW

Tuesday 5 December 2017, 14.00-16.00

Sint-Pietersabdij, Kapittelzaal

International mobility is becoming increasingly important for a successful academic and non-academic career. We all work in international networks, publish in international journals, keep track of what is going on in our field all over the world, take part in conferences and projects abroad: modern technologies allow for it and make it imperative. But there are skills, competencies, experiences that can be acquired only through work or research stays abroad
During this event you will discover all the 'added values' that a work experience abroad can bring to your CV and you will find out how to go international.

  • WHY? Prof. Dr. Korneel Rabaey (UGent, Bioscience Engineering) on the benefits of international mobility for an academic career
  • WHY? Adinda Bisschop (HR Business Partner, Actemium) and Sofia Van Overmeire (HR BuildersEurope) on the benefits of international experience for a non-academic CV
  • HOW? Dr. Dirk De Craemer (UGent, DOZA) on grants and funding opportunities for research stays abroad

After the three talks, coffee and pastries will accompany the networking part of the event, where the participants will be able to ask questions directly to the speakers and to the other invitees, including: UGent EU cell personnel, representatives of funding agencies (FWO, Fulbright, BAEF; ERC, MSCA t.b.c.), representatives of recruiting agencies, UGent ZAP and postdocs with strong international profiles.
