Chris Cornelis from the department of Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics is a  beneficiary of the Odysseus programme of the Research Foundation-Flanders (FWO) from October 2018 onwards.

He received the grant for the project entitled "Fuzzy sets and rough sets for machine learning, sentiment analysis and web intelligence”. Fuzzy sets model and process vague concepts and partial truth, while rough sets handle incomplete information in an approximate, granular way. In this project, he aims to expand their use for machine learning tasks, with a specific view towards sentiment analysis and recommender systems.
