Tijl De Bie

Research

Tijl De Bie is an established researcher in Data Science (machine learning and data mining), with a particular interest in the statistical and algorithmic foundations of methods for exploratory data analyses, and applications thereof. He holds a PhD on the topic of machine learning from the KU Leuven. He has previously worked as a visiting research scholar, postdoc, assistant and associate professor at UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Southampton University, and the University of Bristol. His work has been funded by major grants, including an ERC Consolidator Grant (FORSIED) and an Odysseus Group I grant.
He and his research team have experience with applications of statistically rigorous machine learning and data mining methods in bioinformatics, web and social media, and multimedia data (particularly music audio).
