Grants for Traineeships in northern France and Wallonia

In the framework of the TRANSUNIV (2018-2020) project (Interreg V) students can apply for financial support for traineeships taking place in the border region.

The aim of the project is to enhance traineeship mobility to and from the border region in northern France, Wallonia and Flanders in order to acquaint trainees with the cross border labour markets.

  • in France: Cambrai, Douai, Dunkirk, Lille, Valenciennes, Arras, Béthune, Boulogne-sur-Mer, Calais, Lens, Montreuil-sur-Mer, Saint-Omer, Avesnes.
  • in Wallonia: Ath, Charleroi, Mons, Mouscron, Soignies, Thuin, Tournai, Namur.

Project partners are CoMUE Lille Nord de France (coördinator), UGent, KULeuven Campus Kulak, UCLouvain Fucam Campus, Université de Mons and the Université de Namur.

The grant amount is 400 € per month of placement and is aimed to meet the expenses for accommodation and/or travel (public transport; 2nd class train tickets). The grant is calculated corresponding to the duration of the traineeship i.e. 800 € per 8 weeks (40 days), 1200 € per 12 weeks (60 days) or other.

Selection criteria

  • Applicants are enrolled as a full time master student in one of the higher education institutions mentioned above. There is no nationality requirement. However, students from third countries have to meet the country visa requirements to be able to travel to and stay in the above mentioned regions.
  • Only full time traineeships (credit related or voluntary, non-credit related) of min. 4 weeks/20 working days and max. 3 months are eligible. The traineeships are taking place in one of the above mentioned regions in the course of the academic year 2018-2019.
  • Good knowledge of English is required: this will be evaluated by the host company (by skype interview); according to the assigned tasks. Knowledge of French is an important advantage.
  • The traineeship (assignments, schedule, ….) must be framed in an individual training agreement (TRANSUNIV template) signed by the UGent traineeship mentor, the responsible of the host company and the trainee.

How to apply ?

  • In case of credit as well as non-credit related traineeships: discuss your traineeship with your academic traineeship mentor and with the faculty international relations officer; the faculty decides on the timing an length of your traineeship abroad, or in Wallonia. Applicants follow the administrative application path for exchange mobility (registration via OASIS; check the faculty webpages).
  • Applications: first step is sending in the TRANSUNIV-application form; Secondly you send in the TRANSUNIV- learning agreement, signed by the three parties involved.

Deadline

  • The grants are awarded on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Applications can be sent in in the course of 2018-2019, preferably before the start of the traineeship (and before the end of the traineeship at the latest). Another call for 2019-2020 is expected. However, the grant amounts might be adjusted after midterm evaluation of the project.
  • The grant is paid out in 2 parts (70% + 30%). The second part can only be paid out after having filled out the evaluation form at the end of the traineeship.
