COVID-19: Possibility of regaining credits of your learning account

The Flemish Government previously decided that the learning account could be reclaimed due to a COVID-19-related force majeure for course units for which the first exam opportunity fell before February 22. In the meantime, it has been decided that this regulation will apply for the entire academic year 2020-2021. A solution has also been provided for students who have changed courses during the academic year.

For course units for which you did not pass due to a COVID-19-related force majeure, you can get the learning account back. There are some conditions attached to it:

  • The student did not pass after participating the last examination opportunity (this means that the student must have participated the resit examination, unless it concerns a course for which only one examination is offered).
  • The student declares that he/she was in a situation of COVID-19-related force majeure.
  • The student must submit the application to the competent service of the Flemish Government, within thirty calendar days after the examination results of the August/September session have been announced.

If you have changed courses, you obviously cannot take the re-examination for those course units. However, you can also reclaim the learning account for those course units if you meet the following conditions:

  • The student has changed course or institution before 15 March 2021.
  • The student participated in the first examination opportunity for the course unit he/she has stopped.
  • The student declares that he/she was in a situation of COVID-19-related force majeure.
  • The student must submit the application to the competent service of the Flemish Government, within thirty calendar days after the examination results of the August/September session have been announced.

Please note: at this moment you cannot yet apply for a refund of the learning account due to a COVID-19-related force majeure. This can only be done after all results of this academic year have been determined and registered. So you can only submit an application when the second term for this academic year has passed. The link to the application form will be included on this web page in due time.
