Tengu selected for accelerator program at The Birdhouse

(05-11-2018) The fifth generation of start-ups has started their accelerator program at The Birdhouse. One of them is Tengu, a spin-off from Ghent University.

The Birdhouse guides startups in their growth through workshops, coaching sessions and an extensive network.

The startups were selected from 971 entries. In particular, the great diversity was noticed. "We see totally new sectors emerge, but also in the traditional sectors there is a lot of innovation," says Henk Vandenbroucke, COO of The Birdhouse. "Legal tech is clearly on the rise and the sharing economy is also starting to conquer traditional bastions such as the construction industry."

On the basis of the submitted files, 70 startups were asked to pitch at The Birdhouse. Of these, 14 survived the strict selection: 8 in Ghent, 6 in Antwerp. "We only allow about fifteen startups in each batch," explains Vandenbroucke. "Because the program and the guidance are very intensive, we keep the number of places limited."

The participating start-ups from Ghent this year are: Tengu, Dropon, De Nachtkoerier, Human Reef, Hemp in a Box, Contractify, Crimibox and Techwolf.
