Job opening 'Analytical Chemist' (3M)

3M Belgium is looking for a ‘Analytical Chemist’ for the Materials Resource Division Lab in Zwijndrecht (Antwerp)


In the next coming months, the MRD lab in Zwijndrecht will have an opening for an Analytical Chemist, therefore we are communicating job summary and profile already to interested candidates.


Job Summary

  • Your primary role is to analytically support the development of new molecules or polymers by the research organization.  This includes developing new test methods and generating data in support of intellectual property generation.
  • The following analytical techniques have no secrets for you
    1. Thermal Analysis:  e.g. DSC, TGA, DMA
    2. Chromatography: e.g.  GC/MS, LC/MS/MS and GPC
    3. Spectroscopy : e.g. IR, UV/VIS
    • Knowledge of rheology is an asset!
    • You will work in international teams and interact with laboratory and business people locally and from abroad.  You will need to build a network to kindred specialists within the company on a global scale and teach others what you have learned.
    • Work closely with other local groups, like application engineering groups, to support product sales to external customers.
    • Supporting Quality, Environmental, Health, Safety and Regulatory functions is part of the job. Perform the necessary administrative tasks to be compliant with legislation and corporate rules how to introduce a new material into the plant.
    • Preparing and presenting your work to peers and management as required. Write technical reports and papers.
    • Willingness to do limited short travel, during training period, within Europe (2-3 days) and to US (+/- 2 weeks) is a requisite.



The successful candidate has following qualifications:

  • A PhD or Master degree in following fields: Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Bio-Engineering or Biochemistry.
  • Consistently think out of the box and investigate ideas which are generated by your creativity.
  • You need to remain current on new analytical techniques and state of technology.
  • Language: English and Dutch, both verbally and written. Additional languages are a plus.
  • Experience: Having experience in analytical test equipment and methods is a must.
  • Key capabilities: You have energy and enthusiasm, are creative and ambitious. You have excellent chemical and computer skills, a hands-on approach and a problem-solving mind-set.
  • You are a team player and you have an open, communicative and adaptable personality, fitting with the 3M culture.
