Molecular evolution of RIP and lectin genes in the plant kingdom

The wealth of completely sequenced plant genomes allows the analysis of protein/gene family expansion across species. Using a multidisciplinary approach, we identified putative lectin and RIP sequences across different plant species. The analysis of phylogenetic relationships, protein domain organization, duplication modes and chromosome distribution generates new insights in the way these protein domains have originated during evolution.
