Marguerite Meeremans

Marguerite Meeremans graduated in 2020 as a Master of Veterinary Medicine (major Equine Veterinary Medicine) at Ghent University. Following graduation, she started a interdisciplinary PhD (FWO-SB, 1S02822/24N) under the supervision of Prof. dr. Catharina De Schauwer and Prof. dr. Sandra Van Vlierberghe (Polymer Chemistry & Biomaterials Group, Faculty of Sciences).

In veterinary medicine, mesenchymal stem cells are used to support healing in tendon lesions, but their mechanism of action is still largely unknown. Marguerite wants to provide a strong scientific base for regenerative therapies in (equine) sports medicine by developing an in vitro biomimetic tendinopathy model.

Current project: Unraveling the regenerative potential of (equine) mesenchymal stem cells in a representative in vitro tendon injury model
