Circulation desk

This is an open-stack library: most of the books are freely accessible, so you can either head straight for the item you need or enjoy browsing the shelves and discovering resources you didn't know you were looking for.  

Taking books home and returning them 

Found a book you'd like to borrow, or time to return it? Simply bring it to one of our circulation desks. 

In some cases, you will have to collect your book at the circulation desk (reservations, interlibrary loans, requested items from repository storage). 

Your student or staff card also serves as your library card, and you're automatically registered with all Ghent University Libraries. Are you a visitor? Simply register here at the circulation desk, and you will receive a library card and a password.  

Loan periods 

Need more time? As long as the item has not been reserved by another user, you can renew your loan up to three times: 

Need a book that's already on loan? 

You can place a reservation. Simply click the "Reserve" button in the library catalogue. When you do, the current borrower receives an email asking them to return the item if possible. As soon as the item is returned you’ll receive an e-mail that the book is available for you at the circulation desk.  

No loan? 

Some books cannot be borrowed… However, you can consult them and make scans in the Loveling reading room (next to the circulation desk).
