Frederik Peeraer

Frederik Peeraer is full-time assistant research professor Methods of Academic Legal Research and Legal Theory (BOF ZAP, tenure track).

Frederik studied law at the University of Antwerp, the Facultés Universitaires Notre Dame de la Paix (Namur) and the Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic) (Erasmus Belgica and Erasmus-exchanges). In 2012 he obtained his master of laws, after which he started working as a PhD student/teaching assistant at KU Leuven. In that capacity, he prepared a thesis (‘Nullity and related concepts in patrimonial law’) which he defended in 2018. Shortly after that defense, he was appointed assistant professor of Legal Argumentation Theory at the University of Antwerp.

He was also advisor at the policy cell of the minister of Justice, where was involved in (inter alia) the development of the (new) Civil Code.

Frederik is a board member of the Tijdschrift voor Belgisch Burgerlijk Recht and is director of the Platform publiek- en privaatrecht in dialoog.
He is author and co-author of several articles and books in the fields of legal theory, legal methodology, and the law of obligations.
