Joséphine (Fientje) Moerman

Joséphine (Fientje) Moerman has been a judge at the Belgian Constitutional Court since 2018 and an academic consultant at the Faculty of Law and Criminology at Ghent University since 2023.

Prior to this, she built a diverse career as a lawyer, journalist, EU official, and politician. As Deputy Minister-President and Minister of Science in the Flemish Government (2004-2007) and as Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee for Higher Education in the Flemish Parliament, she implemented measures to strengthen gender equality in academia.

She graduated with a Licentiate in Law from Ghent University in 1982 and a Master of Laws (LLM) from Harvard University a year later. In 2012, she obtained a Master of Arts in Linguistics from the VUB.
