Leander Van Driessche

Leander Van Driessche obtained his Master's degree in Law (summa cum laude) at Ghent University in 2019 and became a volunteer research assistant at the Institute for Family Law. Between 2020 and 2024, Leander worked as a PhD student (BOF). He is currently an academic assistant at the Center for Foundations and Methods of Private Law. There, he is responsible for general educational support for the courses Jurisprudence I & II  and Research Methods, and supervises several students in their master's thesis research.

His research is at the intersection of legal methodology and positive law. His supervisors, Gerd Verschelden and Frederik Peeraer, are guiding him in the development of a method for value-oriented legal research, the relevance of which is illustrated in the field of affiliation law. Based on this method, he examines the implications of the case law of the Belgian Constitutional Court on the tenability of the current statutory affiliation rules contained in the old Civil Code. The research aims to provide both methodological and substantive tools for a qualitative reform of Belgian affiliation law.
