Short Bio

Liesa Keunen is a joint PhD. Researcher at both Ghent and Antwerp University. At Ghent University, she is part of the research group Law & Technology that is affiliated with the department of Interdisciplinary Study of Law, Private Law and Business Law. At Antwerp University, she is a researcher of Digitax, the Centre of Excellence researching the challenges and opportunities that digitalisation brings for tax.

Liesa is also a member of the Human Rights Centre and PIXLES (Privacy, Information Exchange, Law Enforcement and Surveillance), both established at the Faculty of Law and Criminology at Ghent University.

Liesa is working on the research project “Tax audits on big data: exploring the legitimacy and limits in light of the prohibition of fishing expeditions”. This research is part of a more specific line of research that aims to investigate the impact of big data and algorithmic decisions on different law domains and practices from a human rights perspective.

Prior to her current position, she successfully completed an internship at AB Taxand (the tax department of Lydian) in 2017.

Liesa holds a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences (2015) and a Master’s degree in Law (2019), both obtained Cum Laude at Ghent University.
