Operationalization of a case-law database: access and anonymisation

This project, financed by the Special Research Fund of Ghent University, concerns the operationalization of a case-law database. In order to be able to make all judicial decisions public in the long term, the automated anonymisation of judgments is a necessary first step. The non-anonymised character of judgments is to date one of the biggest obstacles to the (scientific) accessibility of case-law on a large scale. The core of the project concerns a close collaboration between lawyers and computer scientists to develop an automated anonymisation tool.

Operationalisering van een rechtspraakdatabank: ontsluiting en anonimisering

Dit project, gefinancierd door het Bijzonder Onderzoeksfonds van de UGent, betreft de operationalisering van een rechtspraakdatabank. Om op termijn alle rechtspraak publiek te kunnen ontsluiten is de automatische anonimisering van uitspraken een noodzakelijke eerste stap. Het niet-geanonimiseerde karakter van vonnissen en arresten is tot op heden één van de grootste obstakels voor het (wetenschappelijk) toegankelijk maken van rechtspraak op grote schaal. De kern van het project betreft een nauwe samenwerking tussen juristen en computerwetenschappers om een automatische anonimiseringstool te ontwikkelen.
