Commercializing innovative research

Phishing, cryptojacking, hacking… Cybercrime can't be ignored in our contemporary society. The same counts for protecting your privacy on the World Wide Web. “This business development center was formed in response and anticipation of a sizeable and fast-growing crime and security market in which technology and digitization present both major challenges and innovative solutions,” according to Prof. dr. Gert Vermeulen, promoter-coordinator of the business development center. Setting up industrial collaborations, closing licenses and creating spin-offs based on the innovative research conducted at the Ghent University Association are therefore the core of the activities as a business developer 'Smart Solutions for Secure Societies'.

Multidisciplinarity is key

'Smart Solutions for Secure Societies', or i4S, brings together expertise from the Ghent University Association on crime and security, with a focus on technology, digitization and privacy. The consortium unites researchers from six faculties and eight departments of Ghent University and two university colleges in their pursuit of 'smart solutions for secure societies' and represents 18 research groups, institutes and consortia with a total of more than 100 researchers.
