About LAMBIS

Mission

Logo LAMBISThe mission of the Lambis Research Group is to advance scientific understanding of marine life and ecosystems through innovative, interdisciplinary, and applied research. By integrating marine biology and aquaculture with complementary scientific disciplines, we seek to understand the complexity of marine systems, address emerging environmental challenges, and translate scientific discoveries into practical solutions that support marine biodiversity, ecosystem resilience, and the sustainable use of marine resources.

Our laboratory derives its name from the gastropod genus Lambis, inspiring the acronym LAMBIS (Laboratory of Applied Marine Biology and Interdisciplinary Sciences). The distinctive shell of this genus is incorporated into our logo and symbolizes our roots in marine science.

Through scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange, we strive to bridge fundamental research and real-world applications, contributing to the conservation and sustainable future of our ocean.

Vision

At LAMBIS, we advance scientific understanding of marine biodiversity, environmental change, and ecosystem resilience through innovative research, high-quality education, and societal engagement. We aim to generate knowledge that contributes to sustainable solutions for environmental challenges while training the next generation of scientists.

To achieve this, we are committed to:

  • Excellence in research and education: conducting rigorous, impactful science and providing evidence-based, inspiring training for students and early-career researchers.
  • Personal and professional development: fostering a stimulating academic environment where learning, mentorship, independence, and continuous growth are actively supported.
  • Scientific integrity and responsibility: upholding the highest standards of honesty, ethics, reproducibility, and critical thinking in all research and educational activities.
  • Community engagement and societal impact: contributing to science communication, outreach, service activities, and knowledge transfer that benefit both science and society.
  • Wellbeing and sustainability: creating a supportive, safe, and environmentally responsible workplace where people can thrive and where care for each other and the planet guides our actions.

This vision reflects our commitment to outstanding science, meaningful education, and a collaborative research culture that empowers individuals to contribute to a more sustainable future.

Partners

Collaboration lies at the heart of our research. By partnering with organizations and institutions at local, regional, national, and international levels, we enhance scientific impact, gain access to specialized facilities, fill important data gaps, and promote excellence through training, international comparison, and knowledge sharing.
