Jeroen Claessen is specialized in remote sensing of hydrological variables, soil moisture, vegetation, radiometer and climate extremes.
Bio
From early on, I was intrigued by everything related to water. Over the years, my interest for water only enlarged. When the time had come to select a specific master at the faculty of Bioscience engineering, Ghent University, I didn’t need to think twice. During my last year of this education, I chose a thesis from the Laboratory of Hydrology and Water Management. My master thesis aimed on enhancing the soil moisture retrieval of the Land Parameter Retrieval Model (LPRM) by optimising the roughness component. Besides giving me experience with remote sensing, my thesis had another impact as unforeseen difficulties with vegetation interference occurred, shifting my focus from soil moisture to vegetation as well. I started working at the Laboratory of Hydrology and Water Management September 2016. Currently, I’m studying the response of multiple vegetation indices to climate extremes. I’m also involved in a project related to the use of a bistatic radar to measure soil moisture.
