ir. Joppe Massant
Joppe Massant specializes in computer science, remote sensing and AI.
Bio
With a passion for technology, I studied computer science engineering, where I learnt a ton about novel technologies such as AI. Having a passion to help solve environmental challenges such as climate change, I decided to follow it up with a postgraduate study in weather and climate modelling, finding that the skills I learnt in my computer science studies are incredibly valuable in environmental modelling. After my studies, I worked for two and a half years at ML6, an AI consultancy company, where I got professional experience in machine learning in production, as well as cloud computing. Still having a passion for the environment, I took up a position at the Belgian Institute for Natural Sciences, applying AI to ocean remote sensing, including projects such as NORTH-HEAT, OBAMA-NEXT, and MultiRes. Having found my niche in AI, cloud computing, and geospatial data science, my next step was to go on a PhD journey. This led me to H-CEL, where I’m using my experience in computer science and geospatial data to support development of GLEAM and to improve process flows for projects such as ECV Land Evaporation and HERMES.
