Kiwiberry (MSc. Filip Debersaques)

KiwiberryIn 2006, then Faculty of Biosciences and Landscape Architecture at the University College Ghent was able to introduce the commercial production of the kiwiberry (Actinidia arguta) in Flanders.

Since then the knowledge centre has been further extended in co-operation with the province of East-Flanders. The centre is now since the integration of the master programs part of the faculty of bioscience engineering of Ghent University. Besides scientific also applied research is coordinated in an international study group and information is being exchanged with growers and researchers from for instance Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Germany and Italy.

Under the authority of the department most Belgian and Dutch kiwiberry growers (all together respectively 30 and 12 hectares) are supervised. But also growers from Germany, France, England, Portugal and Latvia make use of our cultivation supervision.

The research results are not only regularly published in technical and scientific journals but also presented on study days and scientific congresses.
