Research focus
Annemie Somers’ research focuses on improving the quality, safety, and effectiveness of medication use in hospital care, with particular attention to older patients. Her work addresses key challenges in medication safety, including adverse drug reactions, polypharmacy, and inappropriate prescribing. She designs and evaluates clinical pharmacy interventions aimed at preventing drug-related problems and promoting rational drug use.
A central theme of her research is the organization and delivery of pharmaceutical care in hospital settings, with a strong emphasis on seamless pharmaceutical care across transitions of care. By developing and implementing evidence-based strategies in clinical pharmacy practice, her research aims to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, optimize medication use, and improve patient outcomes within a sustainable healthcare system.
