Research focus
Levi Hoste is a general pediatrician employed at the specialized pediatrics ward of the Ghent University Hospital. He has a background in clinical immunology and obtained a doctoral thesis with research on systemic inflammatory diseases. The main focus of this work related to a novel inflammatory syndrome that was encountered in children during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, named multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). Levi Hoste now coordinates activities on pediatric drug research that take place on the UZ Gent campus including the pediatric clinical trial unit Safepedrug Clinical Trial Unit (SPD-CTU) as part of the Drug Research Unit Gent (D.R.U.G.) and the Belgian Pediatric Clinical Research Network (BPCRN), national hub of the conect4children (c4c) consortium. His current focus lies in the development and evaluation of innovative medicines and trial designs in children, including advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs).
