Research focus

Mathias Devreese is Professor of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Ghent University and a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology (ECVPT). His research combines preclinical pig models with mass spectrometry bioanalysis to quantify drugs and its metabolites in animal derived matrices. This allows unraveling the ADME processes in pigs as large animal preclinical model. Animal models extend to the juvenile stage using piglets and assessment of disease effects including critical illness. Additional expertise includes pharmacokinetic modelling fostered through international research stays. Het contributes to the Centre-of-Expertise via offering translational pig studies and bioanalytical method development to support drug development, and precision dosing. He also supports evidence-based veterinary drug information through the Vetcompendium/BCPI (Belgian Center for Pharmacotherapeutic Information) editorial team.
