Research focus
Prof. Dr. Sylvie Rottey is head of the Department of Medical Oncology and leads the Drug Research Unit Ghent at Ghent University Hospital, specializing in phase I clinical trials, including first-in-human studies for both healthy subjects and cancer patients.
With over two decades of expertise in oncology, her research is centered on exploring novel therapeutic options for solid tumors. Prof. Dr. Rottey has extensive experience in immunotherapies, antibody-drug conjugates, T-cell therapies, and biomarker-based treatments.
In addition to her clinical research, she has played a key role in shaping Belgium’s new training program for medical specialists in clinical pharmacology and pharmaceutical medicine, which was launched in 2024. Prof. Dr. Rottey continues to guide the next generation of clinicians and researchers as a mentor to numerous doctoral fellows, focusing on cutting-edge topics such as tumor-associated macrophages, cancer genetics, and predictive biomarkers for immunotherapy response and toxicity.
Her work strives to improve treatment outcomes for cancer patients through innovative research, bridging the gap between preclinical findings and clinical applications.
