A Roadmap for Industrial Symbiosis standardisation for Efficient Resource Sharing (RISERS)

Overview

RISERS is a Horizon Europe HEU-CSA project (Coordination and Support Action) running from 2024 till 2026. The project will produce a roadmap for standardisation to promote industrial symbiosis (IS), focused on high-impact priority synergies, reinforcing links between standardisation and innovation. RISERS will define R&I priorities to support IS, including potential directions for investments in R&I and transfer of R&I results to the market. RISERS will result in policy recommendations and frameworks to support IS, in line with EU-policy priorities.

Objective

The post-project objective is to improve cross-sectoral collaboration, share understanding of processes by which waste/by-products of one sector become the raw materials for another, and grow the community of stakeholders (industry, policy, R&I, standardisation, public sector), collaborating to promote the uptake of IS.

UGent role

The ECM research group leads the work package on identifying and analysing gaps and opportunities for prioritising potential synergies. In addition the group contributes to the work on bridging R&I and standardisation and on policy making for industrial symbiosis.

Consortium

The RISERS consortium is coordinated by Enspire Science, with partners CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation), DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung; affiliate), EIT Raw Materials, Fraunhofer, UGent-ECM, ISL (International Synergies), IETU (Instytut Ekologii Terenow Uprzemyslowionych)
