Jan Fostier

Jan Fostier was born in Oudenaarde, Belgium in 1982. He received a Master degree in Engineering Physics in 2005 and a Bachelor degree in Informatics in 2004, both from Ghent University. In 2005, he joined the Electromagnetics research group in the Department of Information Technology (INTEC), where he obtained his Ph.D. degree in 2009. The title of his Ph.D. dissertation was: 'Parallel Techniques for Fast Multipole Methods'. During the course of his Ph.D., he was involved in the development of a highly parallelized, open-source implementation of an electromagnetic solver (Open FMM).

In 2009, he joined the INTEC Broadband Communication Networks (IBCN) research group as a post-doc researcher. He is currently involved in the 'From Nucleotides to Networks' (N2N) multidisciplinary research partnership, where he collaborates with researchers from the Bioinformatics research group to develop high-performance algorithms and implementations in the field of comparative genomics.
