Xander has joined the lab!

Xander has recently joined our department as a PhD researcher, supported by his supervisors prof. Robby Caspeele, prof. Wouter Botte and prof. Els Verstrynge (KU Leuven).

His research is part of the NDT-ReMat project, a collaboration between Ghent University (UGent), KU Leuven, and Buildwise. The aim of this project is to enable the reuse of entire construction elements, focusing on wooden beams, concrete slabs, and brick masonry. To test these elements, non-destructive testing methods are used to determine their material properties without causing damage. The results are then analyzed using (Bayesian) regression models to identify relationships between the test outcomes and the parameters that determine whether the material is suitable for reuse. With the help of conformity checks, the goal is to approve or reject specific batches of materials for reuse.
