Three more years for successful Taiwan Studies Programme

(05-08-2025) ENLIGHT partners Ghent University, the University of Tarty and the University of Groningen recently renewed the Taiwan Studies Agreement, enabling the successful Taiwan Studies Programme to run for 3 more years.

The Taiwan Studies Agreement with the Department of International and Cross-Strait Relations of the Ministry of Education in Taiwan was first signed in 2016. It then involved four ENLIGHT-partners: Ghent, Groningen, Göttingen and Tartu. For the next 3 years (2025 – 2028), the Taiwan Studies programme will continue with 3 ENLIGHT partners, but along the same successful lines as before.

Taiwan Studies Programme (‘Taiwan Chair’)

Every year, two Taiwan Chairholders are selected for a professorial fellowship at one of the participating ENLIGHT universities, each for a period of four months. During these four months, the Chairholder will lecture about the relations between the EU and East-Asia with a special focus on the role of Taiwan at the hosting university. Currently, the ENLIGHT partners are looking for two new Taiwan Chairholders during the second semester of the academic year 2025-2026, at the University of Groningen and at the University of Tartu.

Interested candidates from any university or higher education institution in the Republic of China (Taiwan), working in the fields of Social and Political Sciences, History or Culture (with a focus on politics, international relations, law, economics, geopolitics, cotemporary history) can apply until Friday 24 October 2025.

PhD field trip in Taiwan

Within the framework of the Taiwan Studies agreement, a scholarship is also available for PhD students aiming to pursue fieldwork in Taiwan for their research. Applicants for this scholarship should be enrolled in the PhD programme of one of the participating ENLIGHT universities, Ghent University, University of Groningen or the University of Tartu.
