Econometric Game 2025

(15-04-2025)

🚨 For the first time since years, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (Ghent University) joined the Econometric Game β€” and what a debut it was!

πŸ“Š Last week, I, Mark Vergouwen, had the incredible honor of representing our Department of Economics at the 26th edition of the Econometric Game in Amsterdam. This world-class event brought together 31 top universities from around the globe to tackle a highly complex and relevant case: predicting grid congestion in the German electricity transmission grid using machine learning and time series techniques.

πŸŽ‰ And the best part? We made it all the way to the grand finals, where we competed against the top 10 teams!

πŸ”₯ This wouldn’t have been possible without the brilliant minds and team spirit of my amazing teammates β€” Sisi Zhang, Jietse Roose, and Safa Ayva. Thank you for your insights, energy, and the laughs along the way.

πŸŽ“ A big shoutout to Study Association VSAE and the Econometric Game board for organizing such an inspiring and challenging event. And huge congrats to the podium winners: Universiteit van Amsterdam, Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, and Uniwersytet Warszawski! Let’s keep pushing the boundaries of what econometrics can do. #Econometrics #MachineLearning #EconometricGame #Teamwork #GridCongestion #Transmission #Prediction #GhentUniversity
