Pieter-Jan De Sutter

Pieter-Jan De Sutter graduated in June 2019 as Master of Science in Drug Development at Ghent University and joined the Laboratory for Medical Biochemistry and Clinical Analysis in November of the same year. With the aim of optimizing anti-infective therapy in cystic fibrosis patients he is conducting research on the pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of beta-lactam antibiotics in this population.

Main research interests: Personalization of treatment, cystic fibrosis, antibiotics, bio-analysis and modelling & simulation of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data.

Cystic fibrosis subjects often have chronic lung infections that are typically treated with antibiotics. This necessitates a high local lung disposition, required to efficiently kill bacteria. This research project aims to determine the specific patient factors that contribute to high mucus concentrations, which will be used to personalize dosing regimen for the beta-lactams, both in adults and children.
