Brecht Vanbillemont is a PhD-fellow in the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Process Analytical Technology at Ghent University. He is currently active in the field of pharmaceutical continuous manufacturing. He is a licenced pharmacist since 2014 and a Qualified Person (QP) since 2016. 

Brecht received the degree of Master of Science in Drug Development in June 2014 from Ghent University in Belgium. Next, he graduated from the Flemish inter-university Master in Industrial Pharmacy in June 2015. The related master thesis concerned a tablet formulation development for a full-continuous powder-to-tablet line.

Next, he performed an industrial traineeship in the Belgian division of Janssen Pharmaceutica (Johnson and Johnson company) located in Beerse. He worked within the Quality Assurance department responsible for parenteral products where he cooperated on multiple aseptic renewal projects. He participated in multiple lean manufacturing projects and obtained a yellow belt. By completing this industrial experience he obtained the licence of Qualified person in March 2016.

In 2016, Brecht started a PhD research project at the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Process Analytical Technology (PAT) at Ghent University where he joined the continuous freeze-drying research group led by Prof. Dr. De Beer. In December 2016, he received a personal Doctoral grant for Strategic Basic (SB) Research from the FWO (Scientific Research Fund Flanders). The main research focus is development of orally disintegrating tablet manufactured by lyophilisation.
