New PAT methodologies for solid dosage processes

Traditionally, pharmaceutical manufacturing is performed by batch processing, characterized with off-line, time-consuming and high-cost quality analyses. Recently, the FDA and ICH (Q8-Q11) guidelines have stimulated the pharmaceutical industry to make the step towards continuous manufacturing by making use of Quality By Design (QbD) and Process Analytical Technology (PAT).

This type of real-time process monitoring can be achieved using process analyzers which can extract relevant process and production information. These PAT tools play a crucial role in enhancing a better process control and understanding with the aim of guaranteeing final product quality.

The goal of this PhD project is to evaluate and keep up to date with the latest PAT tools which can be used for several solid-dosage processes.
