Laser Capture Microdissection: 
Laser-mediated micromanipulation systems can be a very important tool for the analysis of single cells. The presence of undesired contaminating background cells can obscure the analysis of target cells of interest. Laser Capture Microdissection enables the isolation of single cells from tissue sections or cytological smears, thereby resulting in pure cell preparations for DNA, RNA or protein analysis. E.g. fetal cells can be isolated from maternal circulation or sperm cells can be isolated from vaginal smears in cases of sexual assault.
