EUREMAP Summer School on Marine Bioprospecting

Take a deep dive in the world of marine bioprospecting. During this 5-day Summer Course, you will learn more about the full marine bioprospecting pipeline, including legal and ethical topics (Access & Benefit Sharing, Nagoya protocol…), industrial and lab applications and demonstrations. The course provides a balanced mix of expert lectures, site visits, hands-on training in the Marine@UGent lab facilities and unique networking opportunities.

The EUREMAP Summer School on Marine Bioprospecting mainly aims at postgraduate students and early-career scientists, both from knowledge institutions as well as from industry. Participants can obtain a certificate of attendance if they have followed the complete course.

  • Start: Monday 29th June 2026 at lunch
  • End: Friday 3rd July 2026 afternoon

Locations & accomodation

The main location of the EUREMAP Summer School 2026 will be the InnovOcean Campus (Jacobsenstraat 1, 8400 Ostend, Belgium), easily reachable by public transport or by car. Participants are expected to arrange and pay for their own accommodation and travel to Ostend and the main location. For all parts of the program that take place at other locations, transport will be foreseen by the organizer.

Registration & fee

Registrations for the full summer school program are closed as we have reached the maximum number of participants. 

However, we still offer the opportunity to participate in the first two days only. This is a standalone module supported by EMBRC Belgium/ MarineTraining.eu, taking place on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th June. You can register for this 2-day module by clicking the button below.

Free webinar on novel marine bioresources and their biomedical application

Prior to the EUREMAP Summer School on Marine Bioprospecting we will be hosting an online seminar on Tuesday 9th June, bringing together expertise from Europe and Korea on novel marine bioresources and their biomedical applications. Prof. Jana Asselman (Ghent University) and prof. JOONKI KIM (KIST(Korea Institute of Science and Technology)) will talk about "The sea surface microlayer as novel source of bioprospecting" and "The aging-related chronic disease therapeutics research in KIST-INP".
