DANS

The DANS project (early screening for autism with an instrumented sock) is a collaboration between Ghent University (RIDDL, CMST, ID-LAB) and HOGENT (CADS, FTI-Lab), funded by the Industrial Research Fund (IOF).
The project aims to improve early detection of autism by objectively measuring repetitive motor behaviors, such as toe walking, using a smart sock. In an earlier phase, a smart sock was developed that can recognize movement patterns in young children. In the current second phase, this technology is being validated in a larger group of children and assessed for practical usability by parents and caregivers.
With this innovative approach, the DANS project seeks to contribute to faster identification and diagnosis of toe walking and autism characteristics.
