Steven Holiday

Biography

Steven Holiday is an associate professor of advertising and public relations at The University of Alabama, where his research focuses on advertising that targets families, with specific emphasis on how parents engage with marketplace content and how children recognize, perceive, and process persuasive messages. He is currently an FWO fellow and visiting professor hosted by Ghent University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Center for Persuasive Communication. His present research examines the use and effectiveness of prosocial messages within kidfluencer content.


Steven frequently teaches courses and guest lectures on digital media literacy, persuasion theory, advertising strategy, and campaign management with audiences of college students, community parents, and elementary school children. The ultimate aim of his work is to identify ways to assist children in becoming more literate, dynamic media consumers.


Steven is an associate editor at Journal of Interactive Advertising, and his research has received international awards and been published by leading journals in advertising and children’s media. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen, and The Fred Rogers Company & the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
