Eduard Cuelenaere & Stijn Joye

Eduard Cuelenaere holds a master’s degree (summa cum laude) in Communication Sciences at Ghent University, with a specialization in film and television studies. For his thesis (which won the Marthe Versichelen Award) he conducted a theoretical study about the writings on French film theorist André Bazin, in which he discovered their recurrent underlying ontological underpinnings and proved Bazin’s relevance in a digitized cinema.  As of September 2016 he has embarked on a PhD, funded by the FWO, called ‘Lost in translation? A multi-methodological research project on same-language film remakes between Flanders and The Netherlands’, under the supervision of prof. dr. Stijn Joye and prof. dr. Gertjan Willems. Next to being affiliated with University of Antwerp since 2019, Eduard is also co-founder and chief editor of the Ghentian cinephile platform Kinoautomat
