Veva Leye

Veva Leye was a postdoctoral fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) at the Department of Communication Sciences, Ghent University. In her PhD research she examined the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) policy on international communication and on communication and development from 1975 until 2005. Her postdoctoral research focused on international communication policies and projects and on the Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) discourse. In this research she tried to show how discourse theory and political theory focusing on depoliticisation can inform a critical analysis of communication policies and of the ICT4D discourse. She is interested in current international debates on communication and development and their overwhelmingly a-historical and technological determinist nature.
