Piet Taelman

Piet Taelman is Senior Full Professor at Ghent University Law School (Belgium). He teaches several courses on Civil Procedure and has written on a wide variety of civil procedure topics in books, national and international journals and book chapters.

Piet Taelman served as Dean of the Ghent University Faculty of Law and Criminology from October 2008 till September 2014 and as Head of the Department of Interdisciplinary Study of Law, Private Law and Business Law of this institution (2015-2018).

He was editor of the Civil Procedure Monographs, within the International Encyclopaedia of Laws (1998-2020).

He is a member of the High Council of Justice (2016-2020 and 2020-2024), an honorary member of the Council of the International Association for Procedural Law (2007-2019) and a member of the Executive Committee of Cepani (Belgian Centre for Arbitration and Mediation).

He has been admitted to the Ghent Bar in 1982 and has practiced as an attorney until December 2015.

Nowadays he is still active as arbitrator and as author of expert opinions on issues of civil procedure law.
