Short Bio
Wannes studied law at KU Leuven and at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (Erasmus exchange). In July 2012, he obtained his Research Master in Laws, jointly organized by KU Leuven and Tilburg University. In May 2017, he defended his PhD thesis, “Evidentiary deficiency in tort law”, which was awarded the Triennial Prize for Civil Procedure (2015-2016-2017). Subsequently, he carried out postdoctoral research on the role of apologies in civil procedure as a visiting research scholar at Yale Law School (B.A.E.F. and Fulbright fellow).
Wannes is an Of Counsel in the Belgian Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations practice of Linklaters. He specializes in domestic and cross-border litigation.
Wannes is a board member of “Tijdschrift voor Procesrecht en Bewijsrecht”, “Rechtskundig Weekblad”, “Tijdschrift voor Belgisch Burgerlijk Recht” and the “Law & Criminology Journal”. He is the editor of the volumes on civil procedure of the International Encyclopaedia of Laws and the Belgian commentary on Judicial Law. He is the author, co-author and editor of several articles and books in the field of civil procedure, evidence and ADR. He was a member of the commission for the reform of the Belgian rules of evidence.
