Insurances
Students enrolled at Ghent University are insured against various risks. Each insurance contains own conditions and limits.
- For some insurances you don’t have to pay the premium yourself. Ghent University pays the premiums.
- For other insurances you have to pay the premium yourself.
Outline insurances
If you cause harm to third parties through and during university activities
If you are the victim of a personal physical accident during or on the way to and from university activities
If you stay abroad (outside Belgium) in the framework of university activities (study trips / research trips)
If you are the victim of a work-related accident during or on the way to and from traineeship activities
Ghent University pays for these insurances.

Data protection (GDPR)
In the framework of insurances Ghent University shares personal data concerning the insured persons with insurance companies and insurance intermediaries. These data are solely processed insofar necessary for the execution of the insurance contracts. In case you as an insured person have questions about this you can contact privacy@ugent.be.
During the execution of the insurance contract it is possible that as an insured person you communicate personal data to the insurance company or insurance intermediary yourself. This is among other things the case if there is a claim. In case you as an insured person have questions about this you can contact the insurance company or insurance intermediary involved.
