The exhibition Series/Series focuses on the many pairs, doublings, and mirrorings in works of the Vandenhove collection. Whereas the previous exhibition Series : / X1 (September-November, 2023) assembled serial works from both the collections of Vandenhove and the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, this follow-up show only includes works from the Vandenhove collection. Loans have been removed and the remaining works have been supplemented by additional pieces.

“Seriality” remains the theme but has been interpreted differently. Series/Series first and foremost focuses on works that are marked by doublings and repetitions. What happens when a work is mirrored or repeated? How and on what levels are images doubled or mirrored? How does a duplication add value to a work? How does an image present itself vis-à-vis its counter-image? How is seriality visible in a single work? How relates a literal duplication to a metaphorical one? How can we experience a separate work without its companion piece? How does seriality answer to both a rational order and an absurd playfulness?

Including paintings, photographs, and sculptural installation, this exhibition also deals with symmetry and duplication as architectural phenomena, and hence also with the work of architect and collector Charles Vandenhove.

With works by, among others, Bernd & Hilla Becher, Christian Boltanski, Jo Delahaut, Gilbert Fastenaekens, Simon Hantaï, Koo Joeng-A, Loïc Le Groumellec, Sol LeWitt, Giulio Paolini, Andres Serrano, Gérard Titus-Carmel, Andy Warhol, and Marthe Wéry.
