Dr. Daniel Stöbener
Position: postdoctoral researcher
Biography:
Dr. Daniel David Stöbener joined the SC group through a postdoctoral BOF fellowship in 2022. He obtained his doctoral degree in polymer chemistry in Prof. Marie Weinharts group under the supervision of Prof. Rainer Haag at Freie Universität Berlin in 2018. In his dissertation, Daniel developed thermoresponsive polymer coatings as a platform technology for the in vitro generation of artificial tissues. In pursuit of translating his thesis technology, he was awarded a scholarship in order to lead the startup team “CellSurf” funded by the BSS (Berliner Startup Stipendium) in 2019. Daniel subsequently joined Prof. Marie Weinhart as a Postdoc at FU Berlin and at the Leibniz Universität Hannover (until 2022) to work on a collaborative industrial project pursuing the development of protein- and cell-resistant polymer coatings for bio-durable medical implants. In addition to his longstanding focus on polymeric biomaterial coatings, his current research is directed toward the structural engineering of thermoresponsive polymers and their supramolecular assembly in solution and at interfaces as well as the design of interactive materials based on multi-stimuli-responsive hydrogels.
Research project:
Daniel is currently developing multi-switchable polymer actuators based on chemo-responsive hydrogels. He is furthermore exploring photo-reactive, thermoresponsive poly(2-oxazoline) copolymers with a focus on their amphiphilic self-assembly, surface immobilization and use as functional biomaterial coatings.
